Prayer Focus
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV)
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Each month I would like us to pray with a focus on specific needs, prayer being our focus for the year.
Of course, prayer is of the utmost importance everyday of every year and so I encourage us all to be Christians who prioritise prayer. Let us give God the glory for answered prayer and be quick to testify to answered prayer as way of encouraging each other.
This month the prayer focus is on:
The Holy Spirit
The power and work of the Holy Spirt is key to all that we do. Without God’s Spirit we are limited in what we will achieve but with the help, power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit nothing is impossible. With God’s help we can accomplish great things for the Kingdom of God.
Pray that God will continue to pour out His Holy Spirit on “all flesh” (Acts 2:17) We want to see God move by His Holy Spirit in our services but we want to use the Holy Spirit gifts we are given to impact the lives of everyone we come into contact with.
Missionary Corner

As a church we support various missionaries around the world. This month we are focusing on ‘Colombia Childcare’.

In their latest newsletter (December19), David Taylor (founder and leader of Colombia Childcare) tells us of their new church plant in Colombia called ‘The Island’ or La Isla in Spanish.

This plant comes out of the original plant in Pueblo Viejo, and is a community of several hundred displaced people, who have fled their homes through persecution from guerrilla groups in other regions of Colombia. These people are living in appalling conditions.

They are currently renting a small building that houses the church. A little further down the line they plan to buy a piece of land and build the church!

As well as the church being planted, Oasis of Hope Foundation have taken on the ‘Island Community’ as a social action project (their 7th in Colombia) and will provide food, basic medical care and educational assistance. Please pray for this project, that it will be a blessing and help to these needy people.

Please also pray for the other projects run by Colombia Childcare:- Oasis de Esperanza, Cienaga, Pueblo Viejo, La Paz Yaguacat, Maicao.
Pray for God’s protection over all the children under the care of Colombia Childcare.

Also please pray for the whole of the Taylor family as they serve on the mission field.

Pastor’s Pause for Thought

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NKJV)

Striving for a Crown

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Paul uses this example of running a race; each athlete must discipline themselves to be fit to compete. Each Christian is in a race but our training is different to the runner, but we must be disciplined.

There are many ways we should be disciplined but I want to focus on two and encourage us to be people of prayer and Bible study.

Take time to pray, listening also for the still small voice of God, let Him speak to you.

Knowing what the Bible teaches is very important, remember how Jesus used the Word so powerful to defeat Satan in the wilderness.
God Bless Pastor Nigel
